Kipekiskwaywinan Wins National Merit

HTFC and York Factory First Nation have received a National Award of Excellence from The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA).  The award-winning project, Kipekiskwaywinan: Our Voices, was developed as part of York Factory First Nation’s environmental assessment of the Keeyask hydroelectric generation project.  It draws on the traditional knowledge, experience and values of the YFFN Cree in presenting an unprecedented, candid, and emotional assessment. This award is particularly noteworthy as it the first time a First Nation has been presented with a CSLA Award as an author/creator.

HTFC thanks York Factory First Nation members for sharing their stories and working with us to create this beautiful record of their history and traditions.  We anticipate that it will be of value well beyond the Keeyask project. We would also like to recognize the CSLA Award jury for acknowledging, through this award, the breadth of roles that landscape architects can play, and the unique position of landscape architects to support cross-cultural dialogue amongst Indigenous, scientific, government and industry communities.
