HTFC Receives Manitoba Planning Excellence Award

In February, HTFC was the proud recipient of the Manitoba Local Government’s 2012 Manitoba Planning Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Planning for the Fisher River Cree Nation Community Plan.

Fisher River Cree Nation Development Plan

Hilderman Thomas Frank Cram, along with J.R. Cousin Engineering Consultants, were retained by the Fisher River Cree Nation to undertake a comprehensive planning process to develop a Community Plan for its reserve lands at Indian Reserves 44 and 44A. The plan addresses the Community’s physical development needs for a 20-year horizon and contemplates how the Cree Nation’s other lands (non-reserve lands) may impact the plan.

Chief and Council and the Plan Steering Committee worked closely with the consulting team to create a context-sensitive planning process. This process was driven by the existing community vision, land management objectives and short and long-term needs and wants of the Community members.

“The Awards, which generally occur every two years, promote outstanding planning practice deliberately guided by and supporting sustainable development principles in Manitoba communities. This includes planning processes, as well as products, that support well-being by design.”*
